I was sitting behind someone at a stoplight this morning, snarling to myself, wondering how long it would take them to go when the light turned green. A lot of people text while driving in California. It's supposedly illegal, but it's only enforced after a texting driver kills someone and an investigation occurs. Anyway, the light turned green, and the driver immediately accelerated through the intersection with me "in tow." I had to pick up some beer for this afternoon's jam with Burl Jam. The guy behind the counter was friendly and told me I was smart for getting Cheetos with my beer. "Beer makes you want salt, and Cheetos are salty." We exchanged some banter and a few laughs. I could tell he's from the Middle East somewhere, but I haven't asked him where. Moving back toward my truck, I spied a petite older Asian lady who seemed a bit afraid of me. I said, in a resigned but cheery voice, "My driver door is broken, so I have to get in on the passenger side. She said "That's OK." Then she added "The truck works. That's what matters." I said, "Yep, it runs," and laughed. I added "Have a good one!" She said "You too. God bless you." Ain't it funny how it always makes the news when people are mean to each other? But when most people are nice to each other, obey traffic laws, and are in general good, we don't hear about it? Oh oh. I see clouds gathering. Is nature going to rain on my parade?
