The Grandsons Visit

In December our oldest daughter and her boys (2 of our 8 grandchildren) came for a brief visit. This was their (the boys) first visit to our home in the Maritimes. We had to show them the Confederation Bridge, an engineering marvel. We didn’t have time to travel,to the island, but the view from he overlook in Cape Jourimain shows the entire 1km (8 mile) stretch over the Northumberland Strait from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island, The bridge was completed in 1997. I walked it in its entirety in 2017 when they closed the bridge to traffic and you could walk across. It took me just a minute or tow over 2 hours, I’ve driven over this bridge quite a few times now. At one time, pre 1997 the only way to the island was a ferry or flying. My husband and I will often park on the shore and just observe this majestic marvel.

Sounds like a good time. I'm glad the bridge exists, then.

Some of the islanders are not happy about the bridge. No one cares for the toll. $50 to leave the island.

@Morleyhunt You can't please everyone and that's a steep price to travel to the mainland.

You all look just as happy as could be together. It is a great view, I can understand sitting and enjoying the scenery in that area also.

@Morleyhunt That is so beautiful. I love visiting any of the Great Lakes, which is as close as I can get to a large body of water.

That's really a long bridge! I'm not sure I would be comfortable driving so far over it.

The first time I drove across it I was nervous. Now it’s not as intimidating. It is only two lanes and is closed when the weather is nasty.

@grenery8 we will be 99%. I would drive the 20 minutes required to see 100%, except hubby is recovering from a heart procedure.

The walk across took me 2 hours and 3 minutes, my goal had been 2 hours, but I walked an extra kilometre weaving in and out of slow walkers for the first kilometre.
