Need to Get my Jeep (Fob) Fixed

This is confusing, at least it was to me. My Jeep has a hand devise, to open/lock the doors and to start the engine. I had no problem with this, until the fob stopped working. Then, I was no longer able to lock my vehicle, at night. Where we live, this is a big NO NO! So, I went to Auto Zone, they ordered the part and told me what to do. I had to get the new key cut, which was no big deal. Now, I need to take that fob to the Jeep dealership, to get it reprogrammed. How much will this cost? I don't know. Anyway, Jay and I are driving to Bay City, to get this new fob reprogrammed. Easy? Again, I don't know. Have a great day! Photo: Borrowed from My son, Chad

Take me back to simpler times when all you needed was a key to get into your car. I do hope that it doesn't cost a lot to reprogram your fob.

@kobesbuddy I'm glad it wasn't too expensive to fix the problem.

@Dena91 I'm raising my hand here. My elderly car only has a key for its lock and its ignition.

It was a scam, I couldn't get it programmed. This new key doesn't have anything inside it, to get programed! I paid $27 for an extra key

They really shouldn’t charge you since you didn’t do anything to cause the malfunction. I hope it isn’t a lot of money.

They said, $105 and it ended up, the fob couldn't be reprogrammed. That person lied to me!

@kobesbuddy That’s pathetic. They had to know.

@AmbiePam Everyone acted sheepish, when I took the fob back for a refund!

I am an old time kinda gal, I really don't like all the new bells and whistles. Electric cars, fancy things, and key fobs are lost on me. I have an old car, I use a key to get in and drive it off. I wish they would continue to give us options like that. I'd even really like to have a window that rolls with a handle, not button and motor. When I had to give up my handle I was mad, I like to be in control of such things and those handles, they don't have motors that break.give me the good ole days

@mom210 I have a manual push knob to lock my car doors. It's an old car. A couple of weeks ago the lock on the passenger side refused to budge, even with the key. Hubby had quite the time getting the knob to move so he could get out of the car.

@mom210 and I am the same way, I want my old car back, with nothing automatic! The newer vehicles are expensive and those things break often:(

These things are a pain, they are really expensive to re-activate. I like an old-fashioned key in my hand!

And I feel the same way, the older models have just a plain ole ignition(door)key.

@kobesbuddy When I was in an auto parts store, I saw fobs for sale for a few dollars. I'm sure you could get one of those in the make and model you need.

They quoted over $300 for another one, I refuse to pay that much money, for a simple car-key. My son Chad collects antique train cars. This picture is the caboose:)

My key fob confused me as well, at first. It was the first time I had a push-button-to-start vehicle. Last summer the key fob I had with me in my purse, failed to start the car. My son was with me. I was upset, knowing I had to have the fob working to use the car. He took the fob, it snaps apart, and there is a manual key inside! I didn't know that! Maybe yours has one, too?

@kobesbuddy I think I would take it back and throw a hissy fit. I have heard nightmare stories about buying key fobs. I know the dealer one's are way, way overpriced.

@kobesbuddy Take it back. I just have a key for my truck. It probably had the fob at one time. But I bought it used and didn't get one. That's one of those things it is usually better to order through the dealership

I'm sorry the fob couldn't be reprogrammed. What is the solution? We have a garage door opener that stopped working. I don't know what I'm going to do about that. Have a good weekend.

All those items that stop working, they need to be reprogrammed at the dealer who sold it. My answer is, modern technology is awful, in many ways! I'm sticking with my broken fob, it starts my vehicle just fine.
