Full to Half: Unfair?!?

One of my online tutorial companies deducts the full to half rate per class if the student is absent. The good thing is that I can give a telephone reminder to these students. In this way, I can have a class with them and earn the full rate of my service. They are so greedy. I am glad that it is only my part-time job. What are your thoughts about it? I have no idea how online tutorial companies work, may be it's a common rule.

I am afraid it is not the common rule. The other two companies that I am working with are not like this. It is also the other companies.

@Shavkat - In fact I was a bit surprised by their attitude. It's not your fault if a student is absent.

@LadyDuck This is also the reason why I quit working with them for almost 10 years. I just accepted to re-apply as my backup now. I am fine with the other two companies. At least, I do not need to be fully committed with them.

When I was teaching, but not online, students were charged per term and if they didn't turn up, that was there lookout. There were no refunds for missed lessons and the teacher didn't miss out on fees.

My co-virtual teachers and I are pointing out this concern to them. But they do not listen to us. It is considered paid by these students, and we deserved to be paid the full rate. This is really unreasonable for us.

If a student is absent you should be called in advance. But not everybody does that. My daughter is a psychologist and has some patients online. Many just donĀ“tget in touch with her and leave her waiting.

This is one of their flaws. They cannot do this because the number of employed virtual teachers is greater than 3,000. I think it is fine that they will not inform us ahead of time, as long as they pay us the full rate.

Is it your fault if a student is absent? Why would they do that? Maybe they charge the student half for not cancelling and that's what you get. It's reasonable a business trying to accomodate their customers, but I guess they earn well enough to pay you the full rate regardless of how they handle the customers.

They cannot get the logic that it is not our fault. It is fine if they do not cut the rate in half. It is an issue that most virtual teachers left this company.
