Day 83 – Work Exodus 31:12 JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 13 “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying, ‘You will keep My Sabbaths, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am JEHOVAH who sanctifies you. 14 You will keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. You will put to death everyone who profanes it; for whoever works on it, you will cut that person off from among his people. 15 You will work for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to JEHOVAH. Whoever works on the Sabbath day, you will put to death. 16 Therefore, the children of Israel will keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days JEHOVAH made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’” 18 When He made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of Elohiym. God’s name: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Mighty God – Hebrew Theos – Mighty God – Greek Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Holy What would happen if people started killing those who worked on the Sabbath? You know the people would shout against authority and those who killed people for working on the Sabbath. People work every day. Money is the only thing important to people and the companies they work for. People worship money and bow down to it. They will do anything for money. It is their god. JEHOVAH told Moses to tell the people they weren’t to work on the Sabbath because JEHOVAH made it holy, set apart for Him. Elohiym made the heavens and earth in six days and rested and refreshed Himself on the seventh. Therefore, they were to keep the Sabbath as holy to JEHOVAH. He told Moses to kill anyone who worked on the Sabbath. Did Elohiym repeal this law with the death and resurrection of His Son? What did Yeshuwa say to the people about the Law? Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever, therefore, breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Heaven and earth have not passed away. Not everything has been fulfilled. The apostle John wrote in Revelation about the moment when heaven and earth would pass away. Revelation 21:1 Now, I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from Theos, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of Theos is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they will be His people. Theos Himself will be with them and be their Theos. 4 “Theos will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there will be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There will be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” We still live in the original heaven and earth. Heaven and earth aren’t new yet. Therefore, the law isn’t fulfilled. What does it mean, then, for Christians who work on the Sabbath? Does Elohiym make an exception for you because you accepted Yeshuwa as your Savior and Lord? Who do you serve when you work on the Sabbath? Who or what is your god? People don’t look at money as their god. Yet, they worship it, bow down to it, give it more reverence than they do Elohiym. JEHOVAH takes a back place to money. Do you have more money because you work on the Sabbath? Or have your bills created more ways to take it from you? What about those things you own? Are they in good repair or do they break down and you need to put your hard-earned money into repairing it? Money you worked on the Sabbath so you could have more nice things that break down and need repairing. When you truly give JEHOVAH first place and let your place of employment know you won’t work on the Sabbath, Elohiym will reward you. Those things you buy won’t break down and need repairing. You will find your finances increase instead of decreasing. Do you doubt that Elohiym would increase your finances because you don’t work on the Sabbath? What did JEHOVAH say about your finances? Deuteronomy 28:12 “JEHOVAH will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.” Malachi 3:10 “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” says JEHOVAH of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” When you work on the Sabbath, you’re not giving your tithe to Elohiym, you’re using the money you worship for your pleasure. JEHOVAH told the people to try Him in this one area, the area of their finances. He says the same to you. Test Him to see His faithfulness when you set aside the Sabbath as a day of rest and not work. Your health will improve. Your finances will increase. You will have time to do those things you desire. Your life will improve. How? You’re giving to Elohiym first and not last. Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Elohiym wants to bless you with good things. He wants to give you the desires of your heart. You only need to trust Him to take care of you. Psalm 37:3 Trust in JEHOVAH, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself also in JEHOVAH, and He will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to JEHOVAH, trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. 7 Rest in JEHOVAH and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. What do you stand to lose when you put Elohiym first instead of money? Nothing. JEHOVAH asks for only one day out of seven to worship Him because He is holy and worthy of your worship and praise. Let’s pray: Father, I am guilty of working on the Sabbath. Help me to honor You and bless You and not look at my finances to making my life better when I have everything I need when I trust in You to take care of me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Jesus already fulfilled the law. As christians, we can't be made righteous by obeying the law. Believing in Jesus makes us righteous.
