Three Good Movies

I watched three really good 'westerns' last night. I don't call them Westerns, I think they are Native American stories. I enjoy those types of 'westerns'. The first one was "The Last of the Dogmen" from 1995. It has Barbara Hershey and Tom Berenger in it. He is a bounty hunter sent into a remote area to retrieve three escaped convicts. (The movie is filmed in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. A beautiful area.) While he is in this remote area he encounters a band of dog soldiers from a tribe of Cheyenne Indians who kill the three convicts. He knows he saw something but his encounter was cloaked in mist and you couldn't really see. He comes back and gets a pretty archaeologist to help him. They make a trek into the area and come across the actual tribe hidden for years in the deep forest. It is a wonderful story and has some breathtaking scenery. Well worth watching. The second was "Winterhawk" a 1975 film with Dawn Wells and Micheal Dante in the lead but also had Leif Erikson, L.Q.Jones, and Denver Pyle as well. It is the story of a Blackfoot chief who tries to get help for his tribe who have contracted smallpox. He is betrayed by the people he tries to get help from and kidnaps a young woman and a boy to use as leverage. The woman and Winterhawk grow close and she ends up going back to his tribe with him. This is a pretty good movie but not with the scenery the first had. A lot of snow and barren country. The third was one I just happened upon on YT called "Walk Far Woman" from 1982 with Raquel Welch and Bradford Dillman. Raquel does a fine job of portraying a Sioux Indian. It is the story of an Indian woman who had left her tribe and her adventure to become a member of the Sioux tribe. She has to kill her husband after his violence toward her and is banished from her tribe. There is a book about her story written by Colin Stuart. I found them to be very good stories. Winterhawk wasn't quite as good as the other two. Not as well made I felt.
