I put away the chocolate cake. Memories of my first baby.

And I started with the salami and a bite of Camembert cheese. The mussels did not arrive. So I´ll have to have a lunch made of snacks as my mom had the days when she went to the market. She knew of a place where they had the best cheeses, hams and olives. And as she came back tired and late, she would make dishes with all sorts of delicious things like those. I specially remember that because it was in one of those days when I gave birth to Tania. I had contractions so I told my husband to take me to my mum´s. She left me playing canasta with my sister while she went to the market with my aunt. My sister counted the minutes with a watch and we both decided I´d have the baby. And when my mom arrived, we told her. My mother and aunt did not care what my sister said. She was 14 years old. But both ladies looked at me and said that no way. And just in case my mom called the matron but told her not to hurry. Anyway, just in case, the matron told my mom not to give me anything to eat. And I sat at the table with them looking at the ham, the olives and the salami. D*MN!!! Ages later the matron came. She examined me and told my mom that I was about to give birth. I had not even brought my small suitcase to my mom´s house. Luckily I lived near my parents and the matron had a car. From then on my mom changed. She wanted to hold the suitcase (Idid not let her) and the matron called the doctor and my father. I barely had time to reach the room when I had the baby. I was 18 so all I could tell my mom was "I told you so" Tania was a true miracle. She had sweet eyes, a tiny nose and mouth and 5 fingers in every hand and foot. Today I´ll celebrate thinking about my daughters. And I´ll toast with a special friend here who suggested that I bought a cake. Thank you @MarieCoyle

@MarieCoyle I know. That´s why when Claudia was angry at me, I wasmore worried for her than for myself.

@marguicha It doesn't matter how old we get, or how old they are. They are and will always be our babies.

Goodness, this was a beautiful story, I loved it! And this brings back good memories, when I went into labor and gave birth to our two, precious children! First Chad, 52years ago and Mari Lyn, 49 years ago:) A cake? Nope, I was too tired to eat, but enjoyed the liquids, water, crushed ice, orange juice and life, with the newest family member!

My mom then had a maid and she sweetly made a cake for me. It was as hard as a rock and I couldn´t eat it. And I started to laugh and my tummy hurt And I couldn´t stop laughing. That day my daughter was 4 days old and it was my 19 birthday

@kobesbuddy And she stayed at the dining room, waiting for our applause and that made it funnier. Looking back, that maid must have been a young girl too.

You have precious memories of that day. I was sure you were going to buy the chocolate cake. When we are not in the mood of a full dinner, I do as your Mom, salami, cheese, ham, olives, small onions, flat bread and that is dinner.

I feel thhat I don´t have anything to eat if I don´t have salami, ham and cheese. I need to be able to eat when I´m not in a mood to cook. Today, while I prepared my first cup of coffee, I ate a piece of Camembert cheese. It was just right as I had left it out of the fridge but the day was chilly.

@LadyDuck Sometimes salami and cheese (specially if it is the one I prefer) tends to disappear. Anita should hide THAT.

My doctor didn't believe i was in labor. He walked in the room as my water broke. Asked him if I was in labor now

What pissed me more was that they did not let me eat all those special goodies and then my mother was suddenly so sweet to me after all the time of not believing me. It did not stand to reason. If she did not believe me, then I could eat salami, ham and olives. And if she did, she should have been nicer before and tell the matron to hurry. But on looking back, my mom was too young to be a granny. She wasn´t even 40 years old then.

@wolfgirl569 I think so now. But then I thought that my mom (who must have been in her late 30s) was an old lady.

@MarieCoyle And the only ones that last as I have seen. A few years ago, my house was burglarized and the robbers stole everything I had. But I close my eyes andI "see" the gold wedding band that my husband gave me over 60 years ago.

I like finger foods and sandwich stuff for summer eating. Now breakfast is a little different but fruits and eggs are great.

@just4him Most of labours are very painful. Not mine. I think that it hurt more when I was little to go to the toilette sometimes.

@marguicha I totally agree. I had post partum haemorrhage during my second daughter's birth and that was like second birth for me. It left me with life long health effects.
