What's for din? 4.16.2024

Well, this is the frugalist of all dinners. We are staying at one of the houses on Chris' families property while we wait to be able to repair our house etc. Since we are spending so much time/money etc on medical stuff right now, and work hasn't quite kicked back up for him. There are projects up here we can do and some other maintenance things that we can work on up here. But that is all besides the point, money is tight to non existent at this moment in time. I have some freelance articles in and there is work over the next couple of days that we will get paid for when it is done. But until then, we are very thankful that Chris' grandma had three whole pantries which she kept well stocked. She passed away in January so all the pantry items have just been left to sit, when we went and saw Chris' mom she told us that we needed to go over and go through the freezers and pantries and see if there was anything we needed/ or could use. With the price of groceries, and our waiting on paycheck situation we jumped at the chance. Chris has been asking for spam and yams for awhile now. Which is a dish that his grandma taught me to make. Well I guess there wasn't really any teaching, there are only two things in the dish. BUT, anyway. You cube up spam and mix it and a can of yams in a baking dish, we usually put brown sugar on top of it. But I didn't grab any, and we don't have any. So it was super simple tonight. I also grabbed a box of elbow noodles, a jar of 3 Cheese Ragu sauce and some Velveeta, with the milk and butter that I had in the fridge- I made my own mac and cheese sauce. Well cheater sauce, but I guarentee you it was better than the Ragu would of been by itsself. I of course made way too much mac and cheese. But it'll freeze for later, or Rebel will eat it tomorrow. So that was our FREE meal. I'm getting back in the habit of taking pictures with meals again, probably because I am actually able to make meals again! I love it! I forgot how much I missed cooking. So that's what's for dinner here. What is going on at your house?

Today I woke up from the longest nap with the happy thought that maybe I will die during my sleep some day. It is one of the things that happen with the change of season. It was dark when I woke up and immediatly felt the guilt of Luna being hungry although I had given her a specoal treat today, still I understand the need of real food. But that work tired me so I went to make me a giant sandwich and a cup of coffee to bring to my bed. Tomorrow I´ll work a lot along with Anita.

@thislittlepennyearns I had some scraps in my dich from the charquican (ground meat and veggies). I added to it the vegetable broth I had from cooking the veggies. Luna loved it. I made a salami sandwich for myself.

@marguicha I take it she doesn't vet much people food. Rebel always gets our leftovers. Dozer did too when he was still alive. What's left when we're done eating meals that I don't get for leftovers for us to eat she gets and then when I clean the fridge out at the end of the week the stuff that doesn't have mold, smell funny or would otherwise make her sick all goes in one large slop container and she gets that too.

I am sure the free food available at the Grandma's is more than welcome. It's great that you are taking advantage of the offer, it would be a shame if it went to waste. Food is food, and I am sure you will make it taste good. It will be nice for you not to worry at least about some meals.

We had shrimp alfredo. I got out of cooking tonight, hubby cooked! I had to run to the store in town after being gone all afternoon working in our antique booth. So he felt sorry for me...but moreso, wanted to eat sooner than later!

We haven't tried yams and spam before. Today I made some crab cakes and flounder for dinner. Thankfully we have a pretty well stocked pantry, so groceries aren't too much of a pain in the pocketbook. But we still spend about $50-70 just on what we need, milk eggs bread and whatnot.

Eggs are expensive. Luckily I have a friend who has chickens so I can get eggs whenever I want

The macaronii looks good, better than mine, lol I'm having money issues as well, seems a lot of people are. I'm trying to make as much as I can online and I'm trying to sell stuff on ebay too. Mostly art stuff, but some of my own things as well that I no longer use

I have doctors appointments 3 times a week as well. So that eats up a lot of time and money as wel. Gas is expensive when you drive a hour and a half one way

That's good you'll be able to make use of the pantry items. That should help a bit with the grocery bill.

Happy that you could find things in Grandma's pantry and freezer. You can use them for some time. Grocery prices are rising everywhere. A free meal would be the best gift to get
