OK, you know I'm a purist, and a bit retro when it comes to being a pretend macho man. I take down my Montana trees with a handsaw, not a chainsaw. And I refinish my vintage loudspeakers using hand sanding, no power tools allowed. But once in awhile a fella just has to grab a power tool. Grabbing someone else's power tool doesn't sound quite as manly, but my power tool actually belongs to my stereo and guitar geek friend, Ricardo. He is from the Philippines, and is a good carpenter. My manly mini-project from yesterday did not involve loudspeakers or guitars. Or tall pine trees. It involved some planters I bought at the Dollar Tree. The little ones already had holes in the bottoms. But the big ones did not. I fired up Ric's power drill and made some holes in the bottom of the big planters. They will be ready when I need them. Then I brought my new potting soil in from the truck and planted some corn, green bean, and sunflower seeds in the smaller planters They will be transferred to the larger planters at the right time. As you know, the cologne I wear comes in hairy bottles. As a music teacher, I need to "man up" now and again. My next manly project involves some broken headphones. I bought some Super Glue at Home Depot and will tackle it soon. I already have some clamps. Wish me luck!

You have a lot of home repair projects on the burner! I actually enjoy fixing things:) Some people just pitch older items in a trash can, then go buy a new one. I'd much rather find a way to fix it, instead!

I have had these old Koss headphones since I bought them with a grant at the small college in Iowa I taught at. That was over 30 years ago! But they're perfectly good. I currently have a pair of modern Sennheisers that may be even better. But good is good. These thing would cost about $100 if I bought them today. The glue cost about $3.00.

@TheHorse Some of the newer items aren't made with the same good quality! I had a used record player, it was built inside a wooden box. That darn thing was so old, it would never wear out! I bought my kids a new Mattel record player. It was made out of cheap plastic!

@kobesbuddy It's the same with mid-priced stereo gear. The gear I listen to comes from the 1960s and 1970s. You can get "better" gear if you spend $10,000 today. But what I listen to (mostly given to me in exchange for restoration work) sounds much better than most of what has been out there since the mid-1970s.

Do you put rocks in the bottom of your planters too? That helps with drainage. You are a silly man.

I also bought several at Aldi and I did the same, charged the battery of my husband's power drill, went outside and made the necessary holes.

@LadyDuck I was wondering that this morning as well. The little ones (about 5" across) I bought already had holes in them Why not the bigger ones (about 13" across)?

Those projects are good for you. I worry because my husband has a history of projects that involved using drills and such but now he is weaker and not doing them much. It's good to be engaged in life.

@sallypup Do you know the story that ends, "No, Son. Let's WALK down the hill and make love to ALL of the heifers."?

I hope he can adjust. I might have hauled four 2 x 4s a few years ago. But now, I might haul only two, working slowly and steadily. I just try to "get 'er done."

Sometimes you need power tools to do the job effectively.

@just4him I don't use them that often, though. I if were in more of a rush in Montana, I would.

Power tools certainly make light work of some of the harder jobs. Vince has been oiling a plank which will eventually have hooks (railway ties) on it. It's for his brother. The ties have been acid-washed then painted black. I'll put a photo up once it's finished.

Will the acid washing make it look "rustic"? Do you remember when acid washed jeans were a "thing"?

@TheHorse The acid washing is to clear the rust. The paint will last a lot longer with this treatment.

cool. I'm still working on my mother's diamond painting. I think I will be through with it next week. I also started on the needle felting kit. It's harder than I thought. I couldn't mix one color right, but I think it will be fine.

Good luck fixing the headphones. Did you make the necessary Tim Allen noises when drilling the holes? Have a good week.

Gotta love the title to the post. Vanny may be right, you’re just a little devil-pony.
