Winter´s changing habits.

In winter the sun sets early and I don´t know what to do with my day. I tend to call it a day with no proper dinner but some time later I realize that the day is not over even if it is dark. So I start to think about whether I will get out of bed again and go to the kitchen for something to eat. I have several leftovers that I could use. I still have rice and pasta and could make an omelette with either of them. I have greens to make a salad but don´t have any interest in cold food. I might soak some legumes if I go to the kitchen. Then tomorrow, with Anita, I could make a delicious bean or lentil soup. I love them but I´m not fond of washing the pressure cooker. My way of eating is very different in winter. See you in a while. I´ll soak some lentils.

You just inspired me to make lentils for dinner, it's almost May and still cold here.

Lentils are easy and delicious. As I have a pressure cooker, for me it takes minutes to put them together.

@marguicha I stew them in a heavy pot, it takes only 15 minutes to be ready.

Lentils are great in the crock pot if you have one. I cook them in mine when I am busy. I love a good bean soup as well, very warming in the winter.

I don´t have a crock pot but I don´t need one. I can make a dish of lentils in 10 minutes in my pressure cooker. I cook them while I´m dicing onions and calamelizing them tith crushed garlic and other such things.

@MarieCoyle I used to have a small pressure cooker too but I gave it to one of my daughters. Surely by now they have thrown it away.

@marguicha My pressure cooker is old but it works well. It weighs a ton.

Legumes are wonderful when the day is cold.

It's the one thing I'm not fond of winter about - dark early. My food interests also change in winter. Right now, we're in spring looking at summer, so my winter menu is changing to cold foods more than the hot.

I don´t like winter. Today, the first thing I did after going to the bathroom was to turn the heater on

@just4him The heater is quite expensive. But there´s no way to escape from it.

@marguicha I'm sorry you need to turn the heater on. I haven't turned the furnace off yet. It's only just starting to warm up here.

Some pots are a real pain to wash. Vince always seems to not stir scrambled eggs enough and that pot is always hard to clean.

I bought some skillets 2 years ago that are a miracle. Nothing sticks to them. I love to make omelettes there.

I will eat the lentil soup as first dish for dinner. I´ll fry diced bread with garlic and pour over the soup.

Legumes are easy to make. I´ll cook the lenttils, season them and place then in a blender. I´ll ask Anita to put then through a sieve later.

I love any kind of bean or lentil soup. I like it really thick like a stew. Have a good week.

I always thicken them when I make the whole. I use the mini pimer to blend part of them.
