Longing for Years Past

I remember from my childhood: 1. Family gatherings were plenteous. 2. Families pulled together to help each other through hard times, and did so naturally and joyfully. 3. Patriotism was taught and practiced. 4. Family life was centered around church. 5. Television was kept clean. There were, actually, clean movies that could be enjoyed by those who did not like trashy content and profanity. 6. Parents took responsibility for their own kids. 7. Kids could be kids instead of being bombarded with immorality, delusions, and perversion. 8. Faith was more intertwined in all aspects of life. 9. Neighborhoods wanted to protect its children from predators. 10. American Freedoms were valued. I know there has been no era of perfection. But, I sure miss the times in which I grew up. I don't know if the world was better or if my parents just made my world better.

We often say we grew up in the best of times. I wouldn't want to be growing up now.

I, too, long for years past in my country. In those days, we were taught to center in "to be" instead of "to have". I am proud to be rich enough so as to wear many clothes that are over 10 years of age and to use gadgets in my kitchen that are over 25 years old. Then I did not know that I was helping the planet but now I know. I loved your list. And most of them were used in my country. It was not just the American way of life then. It was a way to be.

It is intriguing that people of different countries are so different, yet, so much the same.

@gnatsmom If all people discovered how similar we all are, there would not be wars.
