It was an amazing five hours

to not be in any pain! I went to the pain clinic this morning to have a temporary ablation in my back to see if it was going to help. I can't tell you how fantastic it felt when the pain was totally gone for almost five hours. They said it would wear off around then and sure enough, it did. But it's so encouraging to know there's something that's going to help. We have to wait for Medicare to approve the second trial, then if it goes as well as it did today, I'll get a more relatively long lasting treatment. It's supposed to work for about a year, but maybe more. Either way, I'll be so thankful to God for this procedure. I really wondered if I'd be in such pain the rest of my life or if I might have to have back surgery. This treatment doesn't cure the diseased discs or the severe arthritis, but it deadens the pain receptors. However it works, it's so encouraging to know it seems to work so well. The doctor told me to just do my regular activities for a few hours to see if the meds would work. I walked around Walmart for a short while, didn't bend or twist or lift anything heavy, but it was amazing. I really can't tell you all how much your prayers and love mean to me. I pray you each have a very blessed day.

I'm praying the second test will work as well as the one yesterday so I can get the final treatment that should last a year.

Thanks, Marie. That nerve block was so wonderful, but today has been terrible! I've hurt all over and been miserable. Nothing helped until I took a Meloxicam (a strong NSAID.)

The best I know is the nerves around the discs are kind of burned or ? It doesn't change or repair anything like surgery would, but it deadens the pain receptors. Oshy, I had no idea it would help so much. Of course this morning, I hurt everywhere. But so much to be thankful for. How is your son? I pray for both of you.

How wonderful! I very much understand how you feel. Feeling happy when the terrible pain stops. And we seem to be free not only from pain, but also from feelings of helplessness, suffering and hopeless. Congratulation!

@1creekgirl I used to have back pain due to spinal degeneration. The pain is so unpleasant that it hurts to stand, sit or lie down. Pain relievers only work for a while. The pain will return if I don't take the medicine. Awful! When the pain disappears after treatment, there's nothing better!

@tkonlinevn I can sure understand. Has your doctor ever talked to you about an ablation procedure? That's what I'll hopefully be getting.

@LadyDuck I think in general, humans don't truly appreciate good health until they don't have it.

I had back surgery around 25 years ago and although once in a while it hurts for no reason at all Ihas nothing to do with the excruciating pain I had before surgery.

@1creekgirl When the doctor said that surgery was the only way, one of my legs was shrinking and I could only walk with one foot and my arms and hands. After the surgery, while I was at the hospital, there was a big quake at night. I got up and ran. Only after the quake was over I discovered that I had ran with my both legs.
