Jay's Visit Today, With Marilyn and Shirley

Two of Jay's sister's are living in nursing homes. Marilyn is living 65 miles from Decatur, Alabama in Tuscaloosa. And Jay is driving there to visit this afternoon. She is one of his younger sisters at 60, she's suffering from the early onset of Alzheimer's disease. Will she recognize her brother, Jay? Only time will tell if this will happen. Then, my husband is heading to Montgomery, another 150 miles south to visit Shirley. She is Jay's older sister who is suffering from the latter stages of Alzheimer's disease. Shirley has good and bad days, which is to be expected and she's my age, 72 years old. For some reason, this tragic disease runs in Jay's family. His mother died of Alzheimer's disease fifteen years ago, when she was 70 years old. Anyway, this is what's on Jay's agenda, before he heads home on Saturday. Please pray for his safety on the highway, thankyou:) God is certainly faithful

I hope that he has a safe drive back home again. Alzheimers runs in my mother's family also. I fear it will take me, and I wonder if the twins will ever remember me being this way, if I go that way. I do not remember my grandmother not being forgetful, and that is sad.

@kobesbuddy It was my grandmother's Alzheimers, although it wasn't called that back then.

@Juliaacv Forgetfulness can be a side effect, from certain medications we take.

It is scary to think about. I think it runs in my family too. I say 'think' because my paternal grandmother was never diagnosed with the disease but, when I went to visit her the last time before she passed away she didn't know me. It was very sad. I hope Jay will be safe out on the highways.

@kobesbuddy ........I think there is medication that keeps it at bay for awhile. The sooner he's diagnosed the better. I wish you luck on that.

@celticeagle If Jay gets diagnosed, he will never share this with me. He's a very private person.

I hope that Shirley will recognize your husband. As you say, when they have an advanced state of Alzheimer's disease, they have good days but also bad days.

Sending safe thoughts and prayers. And "being comfortable" thoughts for those suffering from Alzheimer's.

It's a disease that runs in families, they are finding out. But, research is improving the quality of life these victims can be given!

With certain meds that we take for other things, simply a side effect could be forgetfulness.

Jay grew up with 9 sisters and also, a niece. In a small house, this was not easy to do!

I am sure he will be fine and neat he is looking out for his extended family in hard times. Many do not. Many times these the people that made us, its important we give them the right respect for giving us the survival skills to make it in this world.

@kobesbuddy I know that one I do many family posts myself lately and know I should not because people believe keep in family but where else do you go? Just get your frustrations out and know it will not harm my family but they do eventually learn unlike others, hope your extended family can do the same. It takes a lot for me to do a family post.

Yes, you are right about this. And in many families there's so much hate and animosity, over issues that happened! My sister has bi polar mental illness, she's impossible to talk with. One minute she's kind and loving, two minutes later she's calling names and in a rage of anger. And what she claims, it's not even the truth! @crossbones27
