"You mean the old woman I saw tonight wasn't Mrs. Bates?" =============== Sam Loomis "He hated his mother, with reason. She was solid hell. A big false lying woman; everything about her was virtuous and untrue." ----------Martha Gellhorn, in a 1969 letter to her son Sandy, about Ernest Hemingway Since it's Mother's Day here in the Neon Fun Jungle, it seems to be as good a time as any to open with quotes from "Psycho" and Martha Gellhorn. It's not all light-hearted fun and games, though, because today, we discovered that Roger Corman died on May 9. He was only 98. if he had been given just two more years, he could have made another 60 movies. If you're playing our home game, give yourself 50 points if you knew that Martha Gellhorn and Ernie Hemingway both died by suicde...He used his favorite shotgun at the age of 61 in 1961. Martha swallowed a cyanide capsule in 1998, because she was dying of cancer and it wasn't going fast enough for her. She was 89. It should be noted that Martha and Ernie's marriage could have made a pretty decent Roger Corman movie. It was filled with viscous battles, some of them were even war-related because they were both covering World War II for various magazines and newspapers, and tons of dangerous, adventure filled travels. In 2012, someone did use it for a movie. The very creatively titled "Hemingway & Gellhorn." I was still reviewing movies back then and I liked it, so I gave it five stars. If Roger had produced and/or directed it, it would have gotten 11 stars. Um, just one more thing, ma'am. If you say the secret woid, the duck'll come down and give you $50. Today's woid is a common object. Something you see around the house every day. With that in mind, let's go to New York on Wednesday, September 1, 1982 and see what the Cosmic Universal Anthem Interview Of The Month Club Interview For Today is. ************** Roger Corman On Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro, Don Rickles And More | Letterman
