Donut Cake

This is the Mother’s Day cake I made for my mom yesterday. Her favorite thing is sprinkled donuts, so I wondered if it would be possible to make a cake that looked exactly like a sprinkled donut. I tried my best. YES it was falling apart during transport, but luckily I had my cream cheese butter cream frosting and I used that as the glue to hold this thing together. To cut out the center, I took a paper bowl and trimmed around the edges to make it a little smaller. That was my “cookie cutter” .. or cake cutter, in this case. Used the Country Cake recipe, so I knew it would already be round. Very rich in the center. You can only bake them in pie plates. What do you guys think? My uncle got the center. I promised him the center. Haha

@aninditasen They refuse to share. Anything. But only when it comes to each other. I’ll be making him a 2-tier country cake with a cheesecake topper for Father’s Day, so it’s all good. And then soon enough, I’ll be away from all the tension anyway.

She did. But my dad took a piece of it in the morning, and as soon as I woke up I got interrogated. She said 1/4 of my cake is missing. Now, you’re gonna tell me the truth. Did your father do it? Thanks Anindita

Wow, your Mother's Day cake looks absolutely incredible! I'm seriously impressed by your creativity and dedication to making it look like a giant sprinkled donut — such a fun and thoughtful idea, especially since sprinkled donuts are your mom's favorite! Using the cream cheese buttercream frosting as glue was a stroke of genius, and it turned out beautifully despite the transport mishap. The Country Cake recipe sounds deliciously rich, and using pie plates for baking adds a unique touch.

Yep, the pie plates are absolutely necessary to get them to cook all the way through. @annierose were you asking me about beef tallow as skin cream? I think it was you. I may have missed the notification or tried to answer notifications without actually looking at them. I do this to strengthen my memory. Apparently, it’s not working. Haha! I’ll find it and reply, sorry about that. And thanks for your response

@Melanie_Marie Thanks for sharing that tip about using pie plates for baking. It's always great to hear insights. About the beef tallow, yes, I remember about it. It already slipped my mind.

Yes it was, Zain. My uncle and dad were the only 2 that knew about my donut cake plan, because it was top-secret and I didn’t want my mom to find out. I had to wait until she left the house to bake the cake, and then I waited for her to talk with one of her friends on the phone (and these conversations go on for hours) so I knew that was my chance to turn it into a donut. Thank you
