Homeless

Does it strike anyone else as completely amazing that in the 21st century, we have people in every major city who have no home, nowhere to go, nothing to eat, just wandering around existing and trying not to freeze to death? While at the same time there are others who have two or more luxurious homes, several vehicles, toys, gadgets, etc.? I don't begrudge rich people their money. They've earned it and they should enjoy it. But when there is such an extreme gap between the rich and the poor, something is wrong. We've gotten used to the idea of homelessness. It doesn't shock us. That's very sad.

It would be better to make that question to the politics or the leaders of each country. Here in Greece we have made the phenomena a little bit less, but still exists. I think great countries have to make sheleters and help people. At least somewhere to live and eat.

Yes. We don't have to distribute everything equally, but if we truly care about our fellow human beings and human rights, the bare essentials for survival would be nice.

I'm not a socialist and I don't like socialist policies. Most homeless people are homeless for a reason and most of the time it is their own fault due to substance abuse.

I couldn't disagree more. I believe you will change your mind when your luck runs out and you find yourself in a position you never believed you would be in.

Oh, is that all it takes to never have a stroke of bad luck? Well that's wonderful. Let's hope that strategy continues to work for you.

The current economic climate and tendencies are dividing people in 2 majorities: rich and poor with no middle class. What is unfortunate is that we let ourselved driven by money, simply forgeting to be or act human.

I think you hit it right on the head. The other sad fact is the way the deficit is being run up it not only means there wont be a middle class for our generations but probly for generations to come also.

It is shocking.. and amazing at the same time. Some people chose to live in the poverty level as this level is easier for them to manage.. Others... They are denied help for many different reasons, and yet others just do not trust people to learn how to get help for themselves. The Major things I am seeing is Health Care issues that leads to losing jobs, to not being able to get or hold a new job, that lands a person into this situation... It does shock me, but I know that no all homeless are in a really bad way but live in an alternative not as materialistic culture, and some people chose a nomadic lifestlye, as yet others are crying for the help they never recieve.... It is also hard to help a homeless person who refuses all help. We can not save or help them all, we however as individuals can do our best, and I think new kinds of jobs need to be formed.. As many I see can not work a full 8-12 hr day... They get easily overwhelmed.... and just end up dizzy and collasping from it, as well others can work over time all the time with no problems... The main issue is jobs need to be mad that are simple for those who can not hold regular jobs. - DNatureofDTrain

I'm not shocked at all, and as sad as that is I blame greed. Corporations and to a lesser degree your average person on the street just doesn't care if someone is homeless or hungry, and does not receive any medical care. We are all too concerned with our selved and the bottom line. Based on most statistics regarding homeless, the vast majority of those who are homeless are military veterens and those with mental health disorders of one degree or another. Often those two traits are present in the veterens. It's sad, very sad. What I honestly don't understand is why people are so quick to whip out money and send it to the poor of other countries when there are so many poor and sick right here at home. We should help ourselves first and then the rest of the country. Of course one could argue that it is that very attitude that has helped us arrive at our current predicament. I wish there were an easy solution, but I just don't see one.
