My son asked if he could have a puppy, I told him it was ok with me but to ask his dad. WELL dad went with him to see the puppies and guess what they came home with TWO pure bred dobies. Holy moly which one is the kid here? Now among other pets, like sugar gliders, cats, a rat, a snake, a beagle, a bull mastif. WE HAVE TWO puppies any advice from anyone would be cool. training techniques. methods for calming the nerves(mine)

I know someone with a doberman and they can be very loving pets, very intelligent....I hope someone can advise you further on training as I think they would have to be well and truely checked on their behaviour.

I'm own my 4th doberman right now. Unless they are trained to be mean, they are not that way. If they are raised with children and other pets, they won't harm them. There is nothing to worry about there. :-)

The biggest thing is to make sure that they get tons of socialization with other people/animals. If they're not socialized properly, they won't be well-adjusted dogs. Good luck!

I am 23 years old and i have had 5 dobermans since i was 7 years old. They aren't as mean as people think unless you train them like that. My guess is that since you have a son they will be trained to be calm around people and kids. My daughter is 2 years old and our doberman is her best friend. She rides him around, gives him kisses and plays catch with him. It's cute. Anyway, tips on training is to take them dog obiedent (spell?) classes and you and them will turn out fine. Just give them time to get used to you and for you to get used to them. GOOD LUCK

AKC has a great video on how children should act with dogs that they know and don't know. I believe it is free also. They probably have video on basic obedience also but I am not sure. I believe Purina and Pedigree has a free video or site with basic obedience information also.

wow!!! 2 of the very best dogs in the world, you are so lucky, dobys are no trouble at all, happy, content, playful and cheeky but never really naughty. I love mine so much, before you know it they'll be the most beloved family members you have. They're usually fine with other pets too.

Unless they are trained to be mean, dobermans are not mean dogs, so don't worry about that. They are naturally very sweet, loving, and loyal dogs. They will, most likely, be very protective of your sons, however, so you may have to watch that other people don't act aggresive toward your sons around them, however. They are among the most intelligent dogs ever so training them is almost effortless. Once they understand what you want them to do, they will do it. They love to please! If you can afford it, obedience training might be a good thing so they can learn basic commands. If not, don't sweat it you can do it yourself. Just work with them and when they do what you tell them, give them plenty of praise and perhaps a treat. Everything will be fine.

well its acually good what his dad did for him.. He will be more motivated because of his dad. He must be very cool person i believe. I liked the way he handle the situation.. I am sure you will get attahced to those puppies soon and the fact is not he will treat his dad as his best friend.. And he will not hesitate to tell his dad any mistake he has done. Generally what happens when kid wants something he goes to mom but here the situation will be different he will go to his father for more help.. What you say.. I think its good for the kid as well
