Another favourite from the show

I mentioned going to a country show; there are fewer of these than there used to be, sadly. Issues like insurance and other costs are just pushing them over the edge, which I think is so sad. Even the biggest of all, the Royal Agricultural Show, ended in 2009 after 170 years. For this one, Little One and I arrived good and early so we’d have plenty of time to see everything we wanted. We had a lovely day! There were some heavy showers but we managed to stay dry under our umbrellas or dodge into marquees at the critical moments. We admired the handicrafts and especially the flowers and flower arrangements. We marvelled at the varieties of chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs. We talked to the cows, communed with the pigs and were looked at suspiciously by the sheep. We admired the horses and watched show jumping and carriage driving. We saw displays of sled dogs, retrievers, dog agility and birds of prey. We watched the parade of vintage cars and wondered who could afford the modern farm machinery. All in all, a great day out. I wish there were more like this! This little family was one of our favourites, a Highland cow mother and calf. The calf was just 2 days old and its handler 7 years old.
