Today, we exit the classic rock highway for the time being. Our destination? British indie pop. In the 1990’s, British bands led by females were a big thing, and Reading, England’s The Heart Throbs jumped on that distinction early with their 1990 debut album, Cleopatra Grip (all three of their albums had titles that were sexual in nature.) The band was led by vocalist Rose Carlotti. Her sister, Rachel DeFreitas also played bass in the band (their big brother was the late Echo and the Bunnymen drummer, Pete DeFrietas.) “Tossed Away,” the lead track from the album, was not released as a single (the two singles did fairly well on the Modern Rock chart, with “Dreamtime” peaking at #2.) It is, however, a great indication of the bridge in between late-80’s and 90’s British pop music. (By the way, the entire album is really good.) Link is to the studio album version:

Never heard of The Heart Throbs before, but now I need to find Tossed Away. Funny that the best track wasnt even a single. Love this kind of post, always finding bands I missed back then.

"Dreamtime" and "She's in a Trance" were the two singles. Probably the two best songs on the album, but the whole thing is good.
