Should he still pay?

Even though she remarried should he still have to pay alimony? What do you think? My answer is... NO, she married a millionaire.. or MULTIMILLIONAIRE! Former mayor says ex is hardly in distress By JOAN FLEISCHMAN jfleischman@MiamiHerald.com Former Miami Mayor Joe Carollo says he should no longer be required to pay ''bridge-the-gap'' alimony to ex-wife Mari because she is remarried -- to a ''multimillionaire.'' Carollo, 51, filed a 13-page court motion Tuesday pro se, meaning he represents himself sans lawyer. Mari, 48, wed William John Murray, 63, on Jan. 6, 2006, according to the marriage license issued in Broward County. Murray is an owner of Nausch, Hogan & Murray, an international insurance brokerage firm, Carollo says in court docs. Carollo says Mari ''concealed'' the marriage and ``deceived the court by alleging that she is in financial distress.'' Carollo says he's the one with money woes. In federal bankruptcy court, he's fighting to keep his entire $85,000-a-year city pension. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Paul Siegel, who now presides over their family court case, ruled last month that Mari has a ''property interest'' in the pension and ordered Carollo to fork over her monthly share. Mari's lawyers -- Tammi Clearfield in family court, Jeff Kucera in bankruptcy court -- say they have not seen Carollo's motion. ''I can say there is no automatic termination of bridge-the-gap alimony upon remarriage,'' Clearfield says. Carollo says Mari had an ''adulterous affair'' with Murray during the couple's 17-year marriage. She was unhappy with Carollo's mayoral income and ''wanted a more material lifestyle,'' he says. They divorced in December 2002. Bridge-the-gap alimony is designed to help a spouse transition from married to single life. Carollo also paid $32,000 in ''rehabilitative'' alimony so Mari could attend law school. But she never enrolled. Thus, the new ''Mrs. Murray'' has been ''unjustly enriched,'' he alleges. He filed a motion to recoup the rehabilitative alimony, too. Mari moved into Murray's $1.9 million house in Cocoplum in November '04. A few weeks after their January '06 marriage, he added her to the deed. In May, they sold the house for $2.15 million, Carollo's motion says. Mari further deceived the court by claiming she is unemployed, Carollo says. He says she works at ComCost Solutions with Tony de Almeida, her former neighbor when she was married to Carollo. She is listed on ComCost's website, under sales. De Almeida is her ''boyfriend,'' Carollo alleges in court papers. He also says Mari has ''maliciously'' kept him from seeing their daughters. He has not heard from Caroline, 18, a Tufts University freshman, since June. He has not seen Kelley, 16, since August '03, he says. Yet he pays child support and the cost of a parenting coordinator, he says. Carollo says Judge Siegel should terminate the bridge-the-gap alimony and order Mari to reimburse him for the payments since her ``remarriage.'' Says Clearfield: ``She's not seeking anything that wasn't awarded to her in the existing court orders.'' No hearing date set. CHANGE OF PLANS Alexia Bermello, daughter of Miami architect Willy Bermello and wife Daysi, was supposed to marry Mexican businessman Charles Haddad on Dec. 16 -- at First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables, with a lavish reception for 500 at The Mandarin Oriental. Alexia, 26, is sales and marketing VP for her dad's firm, BAP Development. Haddad, 30, is an exec with Fibramex. The couple had a summer engagement party in Haddad's $3.15 million condo on the 60th floor of The Four Seasons Hotel and Tower on Brickell. Last month, she attended a luncheon shower at Caffe Abbracci. The rehearsal dinner was set for Dec. 15 at The Four Seasons -- 100 people. They even had a website -- alexiaandcharlie.com. The wedding is off. Alexia's parents sent an announcement, a simple notecard saying it has been canceled. According to an El Nuevo Herald column, she was to wear an Ulla-Maija dress for the nuptials and an Oscar de la Renta number for the reception. Always Flowers was to decorate -- a winter wonderland theme. They planned a two-month honeymoon -- with stops in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Bangkok. A prenup issue, sources say. Her dad acknowledges that was a sticking point, but not the only reason they called it off. ``Charlie loves Mexico City. She's a Miami girl. At the end of the day, there were just too many differences.''
