Should you register your guns??

i think that all guns should be registered.. and there should be somewhere that we can see who has a gun and who doesn't. for example, what if i have kids, i'd like to know if my kids can play safely next door at a neighbor's house witout the fear that they will find the gun.. or, if my neighbor gets broken into and they find the gun, i'd like to know that someone out there has a gun and they probably won't be afraid to use it. what do you think??
