What do you think about A.D.D.?

In my research on ADD for my family, I have come to the conclusion that it is a poorly defined term for children that sometimes are otherwise fine. My nephew is an overactive child that does well in school when he focuses, has many focuses in his personal life that does not necessitate being Attention Deficit, but as soon as the test was rendered, that was the result. I am growing weary from all the information and DISinformation that I have read. Could others that have personal experience with their children about ADD perhaps give me some information from their experiences please?

I think doctors, counselors, and psychiatrists tend to use it as a catch all for any child they seem to have difficulty with. I also think many school teachers have found it easier to classify a child as ADD and get them medicated then to understand they may just have a little extra energy and shorter focus period.

That is what I'm beginning to think. I am bother by the whole ordeal. I dont want my nephew on the stuff simply for being terribly creative yet a bit hyper. I agree with you and think it is just an easier means of controlling an otherwise creative and outgoing child (not all the time, but in some cases, as in mine i believe).
