Do you think Pete Doherty avoided prison because of his fame?

For those who don't know him, he's the singer of babyshambles and boyfriend of Kate Moss. I just read that he avoided prison despite being arrested 3 times for possession of crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis. I believe that if this had been a non celebrity drug addict from a housing estate for example, he would have been given a stint in prison and had his kids taken into care. You hear all the time that somebody famous has avoided a sentence for drink driving, speeding, assault, drug possession etc because they've got a hot shot lawyer who managed to get them off. Do you agree with this?
