Killing in war?

How is it okay to kill another person just because it's in a war? The ten commandments say "thou shalt not kill"...I don't see how a war makes killing another human any different in God's eyes. Yet the majority of men and women in the armed forces would call themselves Christians. So does George Bush....who has essentially ordered the deaths of thousands by getting us involved in this war in the first place. Will someone explain this to me?
