I just read a news article that says that volunteering at 30-year high. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061203/ap_on_re_us/community_service_volunteer And I don't volenteer at all, so I was wondering what is it that some of you do to volenteer and how much time do you spend doing it?

I don't have too much time to volunteer. But I do volunteer at the school and help out where I can. I would normally volunteer 10 hours a week, but since getting out new puppy, Bailey, I have not been able to volunteer. He has been a handful and I can not leave him alone for too all until he is trained.

I don't see how you can volunteer at all... Don't you have like 15 kids? They have to keep you busy with all the running them here and there?

I volunteer at least 8 hours a week, unless you include prep time which would bring it up to about 9-10 hours a week. My husband and I work with two different groups within our church. I also volunteer as a church secretary (though that is only 2-3 hours of the before mentioned 8 total hours). Then we normally volunteer our time for a week in the summer to take high schoolers on a missions trip of some sort. We are also starting a new "program" on Friday nights to attract high schoolers in the area to come and play volleyball. So that will add another 4-6 hours. I think that our volunteer work has been very rewarding - the relationships that we have been able to build with the youth in our area has done us more good then it probably has them! I think that I've heard that people who volunteer say that their life is more fulfilling then those who don't?? Not sure on that though.

I am a volunteer accountant for the American Cancer Society. They have an event called Relay For Life where they raise money for cancer. The event lasts all night long. I go to about 10 meetings before the event and I stay up all night and count all the money that comes in at the event. I have been doing this for about 3 years and I love it.
