My son had a normal belly button for 4 weeks. Now for the last 3 weeks his belly button pokes out but only sometimes not always. Sometimes its hard and sometimes its soft where I can push it and it goes in. Does a true outie always stay out or what?

My daughter's was kind of like that.. it seemed like it was going to be an innie, but then now it's totally an outie. It's like a little button that you can push in. The doctor has checked it several times over the years.. My daughter said it hurts her when you push it in. Basically it's a hernia. There are several types, and I forget which kind this one is. But sometimes the doctor will suggest surgery if it doesn't go away after a couple years, or if the hole inside doesn't close up. (My daughter's , when you pushed on it, you could hear it pushing liquid out into her stomach).

I would consult his pediatrician about it if you haven't already done so. It could be an umbilical hernia that would need to be repaired... Just for safety sake, let the doctor look at it.

I'm not really sure, my daughter was born with an innie and when she was about 1 1/2 - 2 months old her bellybutton became herniated. It was completly popped out and looked icky. It went away by the time she was a little over a year old. Just keep an eye on it. =)

have you asked the Dr. about it. My one son had what they called an undorical cistis on his and they said that is was because the Dr. didnt cut of enough of the cord he later had to have surgery when he was 5 years old on it now he is an innie. please have it checked out ok.

How old is your son? If he's still a baby than it's probably nothing to be worried about. I would consult a pediatrician to rule out umbilical hernia. I think that most outies stay out, but I'm not positive.
