Mexico Mexican cuisine is known for its intense and varied flavors, colorful decoration, and the variety of spices that it has. it’s appealing tastes and textures, is one of the richest in the world in proteins, vitamins, and minerals, though some people only know it as intensely spicy. The early Maya tribes where the first ones to create chocolate but this was later taken over my the invading Spanish. The cocoa bean is actually very bitter but the Spanish added sugar to it, this is what we know today. Maize or corn was once important in the development of the Indian civilizations of Mexico. Among Indians and many other Mexicans, maize is still a very important item of food. It is used to make tortillas, the thin pancakes known to Mexican Indians for hundreds of years and eaten by millions of people in modern Mexico. A gruel of porridge made from sour maize is often eaten by poor people. Next in importance to maize are beans and rice. Mexican beans, called frijoles, are sometimes eaten with rice, tortillas and as a vegetable with meat. Tamales and enchiladas are other typical Mexican foods these are the HOT foods. Mexico’s other important products are cotton, cattle, coffee, sugar, rice, tobacco and sisal. Mexico’s few lakes and coastal waters provide many fish. In addition, there are lobsters, huge sea turtles, prawns and other shellfish. Northern Mexico is known for its meat dish’s influenced by the Spanish. But the south is where the original Maya spicy dish’s com from. Typical Day in Mexico Mexican’s wake up and have a very light meal in the morning with a larger meal at 11am. After this they will work until they have a sleep during the hottest hours of the day. They then have dinner when it starts to cool down. Staple Foods Tortillas - This is the basic of staple foods in Mexico they are often made with flour or maize. These are often served alongside a meal as we would do with bread. Frijoles - These are a bean, A very good source of protein. They are normally boiled or fried they are normal put into most meals. Tequila - This famous spirit is most commonly served with lime. Tequila comes from the maguey shrub which grows in fields. Guacamole - Avocado mashed with onions, chilies and coriander. Served as a dip or as a garnish.
