I have been on peritoneal dialysis for 7 years and have only had one infection of my exit site (where the catheter comes out of my abdomen) and I have NEVER had peritonitis (infection of your peritoneum membrane). Thank God! I think it depends on how well you take are of your vulnerable sites and follow sterile protocol. I think both types of dialysis have their good points and their bad. It just depends on which treatment is right for you. For me, PD allows me to live in the small town I love, instead of the big city where the hemo center is. There are only 2 (or maybe 3) Hemo Dialysis Centers in my state of Alaska. Alaska is such a huge state that people have to live close to the centers or do PD at home. Just my opinion on the subject. ;-)
