I have recently started to let my children play outside but find myself watching them from the windows, i feel i can't trust anyone out there. my oldest daughter is 10 and the second is 6.

When I was growing up, in the early 60s, I used to go to the movies alone - at the age of 6!! Today, we have to be really careful when our kids are outside. However, in the more rural areas, or small towns, there is less threat of harm. I think it's good that you keep an eye on them; with all the creeps out there, we have to give them more protection than ever.

I have a 7 yr old and we always make sure someone is outside with him. When we lived in Texas, we weren't so worried about such things but everything was different there and there were always kids out an about. Where we are in Louisiana is quite different.

When I lived in Miami I didn't let my two younger children outside. Now that I moved to Georgia, they are able to go outside and play with other neighborhood children.

I have a 10 year old too and I worry all the time, but I do let her play alone, I just make her check in every little while. Now when she was 6 I probley would have been looking out the window too or even been out there with her. You have to give them a little trust when they get older.
