Is Taiwan a independent country?

As a chinese, im quite curious to know whether ppl from western countries know taiwan as a country or as a part of china?

Taiwan is a part of China. I hear though that they would like to be independant. I guess this causes problems in China.

may i ask why should insist be a independent in the time Germany east and west are happy come together????? i really dont understand why chinese cannot come together and make the world better!
