What is the easiest craft to do?

United States

I'm trying to pick up another thing to do. I want an easy craft. I currently scrapbook, use yarn, and make jewelry here and there. Anything cool you know of that I might be able to do?

how about cross stitch? i find it relaxing and it's so fulfilling after you've completed your 'masterpiece', you can hang it up as a decoration or you can make small patterns and turned it into book mark for friends....i've tried knitting..but i seems to have more than 10 fingers when i tried to knit...so i still prefer cross stitch.

cross stitch - cross stitch
i do cross stitching during spare time and i love it. it's really easy because you'll just have to follow the pattern and then after you finish doing it you can frame it and hang it on your wall. it's very fulfilling when you've done a piece and with the design you like most:)

I've gotten a lot of suggestions for cross-stitching. I think I'll just have to see for myself. Going to the craft store eto check it out first.

Candle - Candles
Have you tried candle making? This is easier than you think:) I started 2 years ago on a whim. I couldn't find a quality candle in the little area I lived in so I searched for the materials needed and directions and have been having a ball ever since. I do this at night, it is like a stress reliever to me, I can make any color, shape, scent I desire.

WHere do you usually shop for your materials. I've seen an isle at my craft store but it seems like a lot of stuff is involved. Is there a website I can check out?

You can buy the supplies in many craft stores or on line, I purchased bulk of soy wax flakes on ebay. Here is a good site that explains the process and has the supplies as well www.candlescience.com Hoe you enjoy:)

It depends on your space I think...some crafts require lots of room and equipment others you can do sitting in a chair watching tv. I used to knit, even when I was trucking! I found time when I could sit and create sweaters and other things for my family. I even made most of the Christmas gifts each year. I crochet when I feel like it, I don't do the string, but I do yarn. My eyes aren't what they used to be. I used to quilt until my sewing maching gave up. Hand stitching is not something I am good at. Quilting can be a wonderful way to express yourself, attaching different pieces of cloth to make a design. Quilts also make wonderful gifts. Why I even had people ask to buy some of my quilts. Since we are selling the farm and I am unsure where I'll be or what I will be doing, I am going to hold off on buying another sewing machine, but I do plan to quilt again one day, and maybe if my arthritis doesn't get any worse even start knitting and crocheting again.

Wow, knitting while driving? That's quite a task to be doing while driving. Hope you had some straight roadways! It's too bad you have arthritis. Where did you learn to knit or sew. I don't know how to do either, and I just bought a sewing machine last month. I have yet to use it.

gift basket - gourmet food basket
Well i make glycerin soap and i make bath salt aka foot soak. I also do bath fizzies and combine these plus use other materials to create baskets. When I say baskets I mean spa baskets, hello kitty baskets, movie night baskets full of goodies. there is really no limit to what kind of basket you do .However one piece of advice that's not for everyone you got to have a nack for arranging and organizing what goes where in the basket. good luck in what ever you do..!!:)

Good idea. I have seen baskets for all types of things. How do you go about making the soap and bath salts? Is there a website you go to?

I make things out of broken glass and other findings. I would post some pics but can't yet until I reach 500 rating. I'll try to remember to come back then. Anyway I make stepping stones by embedding the broken glass and other things into cement. You can also do the same thing with plaster and make wall hangings. This year I'm making ornaments for Christmas using the pieces of broken glass and things I found on my trip to New Orleans.

That's interesting. Hope to see some pictures. I'm a visual person rather than a text.

Thank you both. I'm taking it one craft at a time. Lots of great suggestions. So little time!

Since you said 'easy' I'd rule out both candlemaking and soapmaking, as they both require a lot of specialized tools and can be dangerous. (fire and lye). I've done both and speak from experience. Ditto with dyeing, and other messy crafts. Some crafts I consider on the 'easy' side include plastic canvas needlepoint, bargello, latch hook rug kits, rubber stamping, art dolls, macrame' (only uses about 4 basic knots), stick weaving, embroidery on denim, sockmonkeys and other sock animals, and fringed fleece lap blankets. If you have questions about any of these, let me know.

decoupage starter kit - hat boxes, furniture, cardboard boxes, decorative items, pictures, baby things, plates, tiles and on and on
Decoupage is an idea. You can use pictures to make a nice useful item. Would be great for a home made type Christmas. They even sell a starter kit to get you going. Imagination is the motivating thing for this craft.

That really depends on the person. I crochet. I love it but others have difficulties. I tried to learn to knit but my tension is too tight and every stitch is like pulling teeth. But for others it is soothing and relaxing. Hope you find your niche.

Oh I've found a lot of niche's. I just wanted to try something new that wouldn't take too much time. I like to see what else is out there.
