What dog should I get?

Hi, I'm looking for a nice small female dog (not more than Beagle size, and still not too small) that is good with children, but still quiet.
Not messy and easy to deal with, because I live in a small apartment without yard.

Yes that is a good size dog to have around kids. I have a Dog food centre visit sometime!
