Children's Fascination with the Forbidden

My son is obsessed with paper and plastic bags at the moment. How do you discourage them from not eating the paper and not playing with the plastic bags? Other than not leaving them within reach. He is seven months old and so of course everything goes into his mouth immediately (oral fixation stage- I think thats the name for it) Has anybody else experienced this? I think he just like sthe sound the paper/plastic makes when he rustles them...
