why do the contents of packages rom the US smell so nice?

everytime we receive a box fro the US, the first thing we notice upon opening is the nice and fresh smell. why is that? my nephew who's been there said it's a naural smell and not from fragrances. fo a while there, i thought they spray it with something before they mail the box.

and we do't? he, he, just joking. but it's true, huh, packages fro there have this distinct nice smell - i just can't describe it. someimes, we looke forward to the smell more than to it's contents. lol!
