TELEMARKETING--they are selling something over the phone

Have you ever received a phone call and you end up talking to somebody who tries to sell you something?
I have lots of friends telling me they are annoyed of answering calls like that but I can't relate to them because I have not received those kind of calls yet.
So guys can you tell me what's going on?...seems everybody knows about it except me.

If you don't want to be called, you can always go ex-directory or put your number on a do-not-call list.

I've done that kind of work before and I'm generally polite when I receive a call. The only time it really gets annoying is when the same company calls 3-4 times each day, even after I tell them no.
