Do you prefer general or local anesthetic when having surgery?

If you're given a choice, and can have local, do you prefer it over general? I used to always ask to be knocked out, as I'd rather not see anyone cutting into me, but after hearing a radio program on "awareness" (where you can accidentally wake up during the procedure), I'm not so sure.

i never had a surgery yet... but if given a choice i would say local....come on it would be grate to see inside you
