How to diagnose device problems

I have a new device just installed into my computer, its look had a problem, windows did not detect it, How to diagnose this kind of problem?

i think to diagnose it u can go to control panel and go to system directory,. thre u can see hardware and device manager. hope it helps. thanks, have a gut day and dont forget to give best response, -, and + mark for the people who really deserved it.

I use Windows 2000. Thanks for all the advise, i've open the Control Panel and follow the instruction to add new hardware. I was forgot to insert the CD Driver for this device. Working well now.

If you are using Win Xp, then it should recognize the deivice automatically. if it is asking for driver then insert the driver cd. Still having problems? then use Add Hardware wizard in control panel. That should help you.

first of all it depends upon which windows you use. restart your computer and then see whether is it detected or not. if not then check your port.
