I am not sure what you mean by "digital or optical". Other myLotters have assumed you mean digital vs film cameras. If so, you have some good information. If on the other hand you are asking about digital vs optical zoom, then the answer is optical zoom is useful, digital zoom is often a problem. Optical zoom magnifies the image before it is captured by the film or sensor, while digital zoom takes a part of the image and interpolates extra pixels to make the imgae appear larger. The interpolation process is a matter of a computer program adding extra pixels of a similar tone between existing ones to fake a closer view. The image is always degraded by this process, although it must be said, it is a very clever piece of technology. It is basically the same as cropping the picture in the computer, then enlarging whatever is left to the size of the original.

I will say digital cameras are better because you can shoot any number of pictures you want and store them in your pc directly. you dont have to spend a loads of money on rolls and printing and developing. and at times when the pictures dont come out good or someone came in between your view.. and that has pained you with a wasted shot. Digital cameras has once again created photography as a hobby among young ones that they dont have to spend their pocket money on rolls.

Digital is a good camera in terms of functions, convinient, and price. If you compared a digital camera with an analog camera you will notice that the resolution of photo of the anolog camera has outdo the digital photo. Digital camera uses sensor to detect, and collect light from surrounding. The numbers of tiny light sensitive diod are cited as pixel. Most of the digital camera these days has numbers of pixel at least 1 mega. On the other hand the analog/optical camera uses film which has trillion of light sensitive molecules to detect and collect light from surrounding. That is why some proffesional photographers still use analog camera. The main advantage of digital camera is that you can delete the photo that you don't like. The sensor always undergo improvement to give higher resolution. It is cost effective too because you no longer use film which you have to buy, wash and print.

I do not know alot about which camera is good but I do like digital cameras. You can see the picture and erase them.Upload to your picture onto the computer and share them in a second. No waiting for the pictures to be developed.
