I feel he surely make it..considering the bad form Sachin is in and great form it is in. Also the young of all...so can surely say Ponting will have this world record to his name.

Well with his present form and pace,no one can not deny this thing.
Ponting is currently playing at his best and he will beat the record sooner or later(if he continues his form).
But india will be playing tests this month,lets see wats happen?
