I always used to think that my best friend was the one I went out drinking with on a regular basis. He probably was at the time, keeping me company when I was down, albeit in the nearest bar. Now, my best friend is my wife, we can chat about anything and tell each other things that best friends do tell. She's very open minded and with a good sense of humour too, so no need for the bars anymore, and I still see my mate occasionally, he was best man at our wedding.

My best friend is an old boyfriend. We started out as friends, and after we drifted apart romantically, we remained friends. We know each other better than we know ourselves, and would do anything for each other. Unfortunately, many people never know the blessing of true friendship. I feel fortunate that I have.
