Something funny happened when I had a foreign teacher's class. The teacher wanted a student to read one paragraph. But the student just read half of the paragraph. Then the teacher said:" Keep readind". The student thought the teacher wasn't satisfied with his pronounciation so he repeated what the teacher said" Keep reading". The teacher thought he didn't understand what he meaned. So he emphasized again" K-e-e-p r-e-a-d-i-n-g". But the student thought the teacher wanted to teach him how to spell it. So he said" K-e-e-p r-e-a-d-i-n-g" again. The teacher became a little angry. And he said" Keep reading" very loudly and quickly. Finally the student understood. And we all laughed.

This makes me wonder where a certain quote first originated... "I think what we have here is a failure to communicate." At least the student figured it out eventually...if I were the teacher, just to run the class more efficiently, he or she should have called on someone else to finish reading the paragraph, then maybe later explained to the first student how to tell when to stop reading...
