Earaches.

I'm so very tired of the pain... In my younger years, I had a lot of problems with earaches, and when I finally went to the hospital for it. They told me that the earaches were caused from getting water into them, and I was supposed to be taking these medicated eardrops, and wearing earplugs whenever I went swimming, or took a shower. Needless to say, while I did wear the earplugs when swimming, I could not stand trying to wearing them in the shower. And after I finished that first bottle of eardrops, we never refilled it. Too bloody expensive, I just decided I'd be extra careful with my ears, and make sure no water got into them. I've been a freak about it ever since, always wearing earplugs when swimming. And as soon as I get out of the shower, I run to clean and dry out my ears. It was working okay, I'd get small earaches every now and again, but they'd go away within a few hours. For the past two and a half weeks, I've had a constant earache. I have not been swimming, because it's freezing outside, after all, it is winter here. I had still been cleaning my ear after showers, and since this pain started, I haven't been taking showers. Just cleaning myself in the tub, and washing my hair in the sink so that it can get clean without the water running into my ears. As suggested by family members I tried putting a q-tip with peroxide on it into the opening of the ear, since it's supposed to help dry out any water that's in there. I've done it before, and then there was water, and I could tell by the popping, crackling sounds I heard. There was been no popping, no crackling. So I seriously don't think that water is the cause of this constant earache. I know what you're all probally thinking, so why haven't I gone to the doctor yet? Because I have no job, no health insurance, no money to pay a doctor's bill, and the free clinic around here doesn't do anything with ears. My ear throbs, it throws off heat, it's sensitive to sound, and touch. I just don't know what to do about it. I've been taking pain killers, which help to dull the ache, but of course pain killers don't fix problems. Does anyone have any suggestions that may help me? Other than the ones I've already mentioned, and BELIEVE ME, as soon as I can find a way that I could possibly see a doctor than I will. So please don't lecture me on that, I'm working on that, I need suggestions to help fill the time between that.

Have you tried looking up your symptoms somewhere on the net to see what's wrong? It's possible you might be able to see what you need to do without seeing a doctor.

You're always looking out for me, Thanks GJ. Even though you just sat on Yahoo Messenger lecturing me about getting to a doctor no matter what for half an hour... ^_^ I still appreciate that you didn't break into that long-winded lecture again here.

Since you can't go to the doctor, I would have made the same suggestion Chad made -- look up your symptoms online. It may not be 100% accurate, but you could get an idea for what you could do or not do to help with the pain. And you may find that the cause of the pain is worth an expensive doctor/hospital bill.

This is weird because I am experiencing pain with my ears. I feel someone is sticking their finger in my ear so I sound funny when I talk. Plus I feel really dizzy right now and sometimes nautious. I have to sleep on my back because if I sleep on the side of my head, it feels weird.

That doesn't sound very good, Mister Man. Sounds like you need to get yourself to a Doctor's appointment as well. Ecspecially if the earache is making you dizzy, that could be something quite serious.

Ear pain due to 'water exposure' is mostly due to infection. Water gets in your ear, and it predisposes you to infection from water-loving bacteria.... commonly from bugs like Pseudomonas. These are external ear infections, which means you might have many of the following symptoms: Discharge from your ear, Pain when pressing that piece of cartilage closest to your ear-opening, feeling of fullness in your ear, and of course pain all the time. If it is infection.... you'll need to see a doctor for antibiotic drops :(

Yes I know, I know. I heard you drone on about this last night. I was listening! I'm not sure if it's a curse, or a blessing having a doctor as one of your bestfriends. All I do know is that... I'm not going to ask your medical advice any time soon, if it always ends up on such a depressing note. =-p Don't worry, I'll take care of my ears, and get those antibiotic drops as soon as I can afford to go to the doctor. Silly, Raul.
