Why in the name of religion??

In ancient times, religion was a sacred belief and principles to keep integrity and harmony among people. But now everything have changed, it has become a tool for self. Only few people or organizations work towards the positive side. If you pick up a newspaper you will find cases of rape, murder, extortion, fraud etc all in the name of religion. I'm an Indian and a hindu by birth, but I have never felt the enlightment through following a religious leader's words or by visiting temples. Most religious leaders are good motivators and they lure people into believing something which is already there in front of us. What i believe... is to follow my own heart. Take life as the destiny and experiences as the guide. Do good deeds, live and let others live. And what do you say?:)

world as i see it! - This world is like some DIRT for me at least!
yes u r right! But you yourself should see that, during the days when there was poeace in this world there only exsists only one big RELIGION,but now because more than one religion are considered main, or atleast have greater influence on world's politics so there is always some sort of clash or might be the lust of getting "Victory" over the other religion is there due to some non-religious people who deliberately spread misconcepts and give such commands which have no links with the religion they are talking about! World is highly unsaturated with some 600 million Hindus, some 1500 million Muslims, other 2000 million Christians, and other religion followers and atheists about 2000 million And as i see,the time is coming once again when Only one religion will again rule this world!

Yeah there is a possibility for joinin back to one...but not as under a religion but under a similar approach or the way of thinking. People are now more aware and determined and hardworking, there will be a time when all will have the same approach, mindset and work together for a better tomorrow. But i see that coming but will take a way too long.. But i believe will someday...

Just because they are doing these things in the name of god does not at all mean that god approves at all of what they are doing!

Because religion is a "good" thing to be used as justification for anything. Be it rape, murder, killing, power games, whatever. And together with religion you can put patriotism, political beliefs, whatever. The problem is with the people, not always (but sometimes) doctrines.

I believe in treating other people as I would like to be treated. I think that this is the basis of most religious practices around the world. I believe that to commit crimes in the name of religion is to take away from that religion and to be promoting your own agenda ahead of your religion. It is easy to get followers if you say it is for a religion. This is a shame that there are people out there who use religion like that. I would like to see more people who do good recognized rather than criminals.

You goes to Temple and Heard of religious leader's voice some day , some where not for your enlightment. You did it not to get too much of enlightment as you understand it. You did not know why you heard leader's, and you also did not know why didi you went to temple. If you know what you do in each moment of your life. These questions will not come to your mind. All depends on types work we do, our speach and writings has no meanings if speach and writings are not our work(profession or Bruti). If speach and writings are not your profession, it is better to do some work in any moment of our life, which is our objective why came here. If you have more faith on gods than your self on your day to day working life, then you will be a real human being(Man). Thanks

Like what i state before that.. "i believe in following my own heart. Take life as the destiny and experiences as the guide. Do good deeds, live and let others live." Yeah, we should "practice what we preach". Thanks for your reply.

In the Bible there is a piece that Jesus says: Church is wherever my believers are and fell and believe in me. I support this. I support the freedom of religion, the freedom to comunicate. I feel very bad about all these things that have happened in the name of religion. And you know the worse of them were done by christians and muslims. And I'm a christian and not proud of what christianity did in THE name.

Very true. Now the time have changed, and no organization or religious groups or political parties can change the world... It all depends on the individual now.

I am a vaishnava bhaktin. I follow what Lord Krishna and the acharyas preached. I dont think religion is a problem. People are by nature bigots in this age. Theya re killing in the name of anything. I think violence is also fructifying from the large scale animal killing that is going on. Peace can only come if we respect God's creations. Nice invigorating post. Thanks:)

Yeah, religion is not the problem. I'm angry with those who exploit themselves n others in the name of religion. They use religion as a tool to reach their goals. Nice reply... Thanks:)

I think that is a great outlook. I am Catholic, but don't go to church regularly. I believe in most of what they preach, however, not everything.

Thanks for the reply. And above all we should practice what we preach.
