Techno is a form of electronic dance music that became prominent in Detroit, Michigan during the mid-1980s with influences from electro, New Wave, Funk and futuristic fiction themes that were prevalent and relative to modern culture during the end of the Cold War in industrial America at that time. Following the initial success of Detroit Techno as a musical culture — at the very least on a regional level — an expanded and related subset of genres in the 1990s emerged globally.--wikipedia

Although he has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiësto. However, his latest productions have him dropping the "DJ" label and he is now known simply as "Tiësto".

I really dont' think Techno is the right term here. Techno is a form of electronic music. other forms are trance, house, acid, prog. house, and so on. it is true that detroit is the birthplace of techno and the music then evolved into other forms of electronica, while the form of techno stayed as it is.
I just don't appreciate when all forms of electronica are lumped into techno. Techno has a very distinct style and form that is very different than trance, house, jungle and the crap madonna puts out.
So with that said:
my favorite techno djs are Richie Hawtin and Jeff Mills. I also love Derrick May, Slam and Juan Atkins

i am not big into techno, but a couple guys from afi have a band called blaqk audio. and its supposed to be aimed more toward techno. i am anxious to check it out.
