Not sure what "era" were talking about neighboreeno. If it is for the 20th century I would think Muhammad Ali would be in the running for the top 3. Hidee Ho neighboreeno

Here in the US he definitely is not. However personalities like Michael Schumacher, and Beckham are known. In our Era here in the US Tiger Woods is far more popular. Then Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretsky and Barry Bonds all have more popularity as well. I think this just depends upon what you are into and where you live.

I live in INDIA and in this part of the world nobody really cares what Beckham does. Most of the people wouldnt know about him. Here SACHIN TENDULKAR is the most famous. He is a sort of GOD here.

it's all relative isn't it? depends on where you live the most popular sports star will always be someone from your home country. that's patriotism for you! i don't think becks is the most popular. to me i will pick tiger woods. he exhibits some very strong good traits of a truly respectable sportsman. no rage, focus, hardworking, sportsmanship, integrity, righteousness, generous and charitable.

I think he is one of the most globally recognised icons, although I don’t think he is alone. There are a few people who really leave a lasting print in football, Beckham will be one of them, along with Zidane, and Ronaldo.
