What is a X-BOX?

As India is just a developing country,not all know what is a Xbox and what is its actual purpose,even i know only a few things .. it is a microsoft product,it is expensive ..etc .Can anybody tell me what it is and its purpose?

X-Box it's a console.. by microsoft.. but.. it's old.. now.. there is XBOX360.. full support hd play dvd with hard disk from 20gb here in italy it's aveble from 299€ .. (core system).. or 399€ full system.. the difference .. are.. the core model ..don't have hard drive and.. don't have wifi youpad.. i don't know..su much about xbox firs but i don't think it's too exprensive..
