I get horrible heartburn. I ended up asking a doctor about it and he put me on Prilosec OTC. Its amazing. I ran out and couldn't afford to get more, so we bought the cheap stuff and it didn't help at all. But sometimes if you don't have anything, try a glass of milk. It usually helps me for a little bit.

Sorry for your discomfort, it is a shame that helpful meds can be so expensive. Peppermint does help me though it is said not to. Go figure. The milk that coats the membranes all the way down, does not last very long however my neutralize the acid with alkalinity. (sugars)

I was getting Heartburn almost everyday..I know how bad it can get. I went to my Doctor and he put me on Nexium (the little purle pill). I had tried everything, Tums you name it. It didn't work. But Nexium is a bit costly without insurance..You should see your Doctor if you are getting it more then 3 times a week as it could be something really wrong....

stress and heartburn - busy lives can lead to the body have difficulty until it gets the rest and proper nourishment that it needs.
Don't get it often. Just now and then, of course my life is a bit stressful and don't always eat right. Busy these past two days so am trying to slow down a bit. When I do get it Peppermint helps. Although it has been said it doesn't work, it does for me. Thanks for responding!

peppermint ice cream - combine two of my favorite things and I may get relief and be happy at the same time.
Like I said earlier in this discussion peppermint seems to help me alot. I am more of a natural remedy girl since the doctors in my life have always!! been wrong. I am trying the ice cream that someone suggested if I can keep it from my kids!!

My partner used to get heartburn often. I think it is because he was eating too much junk food. But he has changed his eating habits since then. However, when he did get heartburn, she would eat Tums or Rolaids like they were candy! LOL The only time I got heartburn was when I was pregnant. And it was a result of the baby pushing my stomach up. So I would eat ice cream to make the baby move away from my tummy. But ice cream would also work because it would cool my stomach and coat my stomach at the same time. I hated eating Tums because it would taste like I was holding a penny in my mouth. So other than ice cream, I would drink the pink stuff. :)

You may not believe me, but just try it. Take a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinager(the regular apple cider vinager is horrible tasting and not as good for you)mix it in some applesauce and eat it. The other thing that you can do is to drink a small glass of grapefruit juice. The reason why you get heartburn isn't because you have too much acid in your stomach, but because you don't have enough acid. Anyway, sometimes this wouldn't work for me, so I took a little baking soda water and that seemed to help when I really did have to much acid in my stomach.

Rosey, I've heard of both your remedies, though not the part about mixing the applesauce in the vinegar. I usually go for the baking soda because I always have it around. Yes I did hear the arguement about having heartburn because of too little acid in your body not too much. I asked a nurse at the hospital where I worked and she confirmed it. She backed it up by telling me that her dad got pretty bad heartburns and he was told to drink pickle juice...hey that's another remedy.

eat something that disagrees with me, lol. Bless you it's a horrible feeling! Try to drink a little milk or water. Be careful using those gaviscon liquid cures as they are made with salt as I discovered whilst pregnant. The midwife kept saying - take more gaviscon until the chemist told me it was causing the problem because of the high salt content, so I gave up on the cure and the indegestion magically eased. Hope you feel better! Try to work out what causes the discomfort and avoid it.

I have had severe heart burn for years. I have been on all of the prescription medications. You name it I have used it. What works the best for me is Nexium. I was surprised when my doctor switched me to it that it actually worked a lot better for me. Because of the severity of my heart burn I also take tums whenever need to supplement. I also found that pepcid worked very well along with the prescription but when you look at $15 for a 10 pack compared to $4 for a large bottle of tums you know which one wins. I used to take a little mint tablet that was really small and you just let it desolve in your mouth. It work better then any other over the counter medicine but I have not seen it in ten years.

My Heart...paining My Heart This heartache of mine New in this shrine Neither its loss of love Nor loss of life But betraying a confidante. How to exress this pain for such an act of mine what under earth will i gain hurting your heart again. Saw in your eyes the hateful I put down my head remorseful I felt myself groggy Took over by pang, I groan. This is a heartful beseech from a seemingly callous creature forgive me for my behaviour for you are indulgent you'll let bygones be bygones Perceptive enough to bury the hatchet. Regards, Abhi

If I don't have anything to take for my heartburn, I will drink a big glass of milk, it helps hold me off until I can get soe medicine. I also will eat some bread/toast, that also helps. But my main choice is Prilosac. It works wonders for me, it takes my heartburn away for days. I have the acid reflux problem. I use to have heartburn everyday until I start Prilosac.

I've heard that some of the prescribed remedies for heartburn just aggregate the problem. I read in a health magazine some time ago that if you drink a hot/warm drink with your meals it will help your digestion which in turn will keep you regular...for lack of a better term. I am proof that it works. I used to have pretty bad heartburn and acid reflux and it has helped me trememdously.

I usually keep a bottle of Tums or Generic Cvs anti-acid around for heart burn. They seem to work pretty fast and they taste good.lol If I don't have any around, I'll get a scoop of ice cream. That helps sooth it. Lloyd

My sister told me what her doctor said to to prevent heartburn. When you are eating, after every couple bites, take sips of a beverage. And continue that little ritual until you are finished eating. Since doing that, her heartburn has been cut in half. Another thing I noticed is when I continually bend down or lean over, I get heartburn. While I know baking soda and water takes it away, I'll opt for a smooth dissolve Tums.

I actually don't do anything. I have a heart condition, and sometimes get palpitations or chest pains, very mild ones. I think I often mistake heart burn for these palpitations, honeslty!! That's why they call it heart burn! But really, I don't do anything. It usually alleviates itself in time, and I've never had it so bad that the pain is unbearable.
