Why is it very hard to travel/migrate from US to Mexico (and vise-versa) while a US to Canada (and vise-versa) trip is very easy? Why is it that in the movies, US criminals always flee to Mexico?

Because of rampant illegal migration of mexican to u.s. land.

But why is it that Canadians are free to go to US effortlessly? Isn't that some kind of stereotyping? Just a question.. :)
