Any Snowboarders out there?

My friends are taking me on a ski trip for my birthday and I'm going to try out snowboarding. I've always stayed away from it because I didn't want to look stupid. Do any of you more experienced boarders have any tips? Like how to stop...my friends are telling me to just dive into the snow...but I think they just wanna make me look stupid.

Al you do to stop is make your feet face foward on the snowboard. I have only done it a few times and once you get the hang of it and learn how to balance it is not as bad as you think it would be

Is it kind of like plowing on skis? How easy is it to break away from the snowboard when you crash? I really don't like the way the ankle is twisted when people move around with one foot unhooked.

mmm id like to do snowboard but unfortunally in my country there is not ice
