Is the government keeping secrets about UFO's

Does the government have knowledge about UFO's that they are withholding from the public ? The governments of many countries are admitting that there is knowledge that UFO's exist but the U.S. government denies all UFO activity and or existance. Why? Do they have something to hide ?
